In “Born of Man and Woman” by Richard Matheson the narrator is unfairly labeled as a monster. This misunderstanding occurs because of the way the narrator looks compared to his family. Since the narrator looks different compared to his family he is abused and tormented as a result. He then becomes a “monster” because of the way his parents treat him.

In the short story it states, “I see in the pictures faces like of mother and father. Father says they are pretty. Once he said. And also mother he said. Mother so pretty and me decent enough. Look at you he said and didn’t have the nice face.” This statement shows that the narrator looks different from his family and gets treated poorly because of it. In the text it also states, “This is another times. Father chained me tight. I hurt because he beat me.” This quote clearly shows that his parents are abusive and cruel. The narrator feels unloved. He becomes a monster because he wants to make his parents sorry they ever mistreated him. It’s not his fault he wants to get revenge. His parents provoked this behavior in him. They treated him as if he was a monster so he became one. If they just loved  him and treated him like he was normal he wouldn’t have ever wanted to hurt them.
